   [7/13/2009] ADULT MOSQUITO TREATMENT IN LANCASTER COUNTY, EAST AND WEST LAMPETER TOWNSHIPS
The Lancaster County West Nile Virus (WNV) – Mosquito Control Program will be conducting an ATV mounted Ultra Low Volume (ULV) mosquito control operation in East and West Lampeter Townships, Lancaster County. High populations of mosquitoes capable of transmitting WNV have been detected within a residential community that straddles the township line near the intersection of Strasburg Pike and Millport Road.

   [7/13/2009] ADULT MOSQUITO SPRAY WILL BE CONDUCTED JULY 13 IN WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP
The Bucks County Department of Health, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), will administer an adult mosquito spray in Warrington Township July 13, weather permitting. The event, which is intended to treat mosquitoes that could carry or amplify West Nile Virus, will begin at dusk. The area to be treated includes Palomino Farms and associated areas bordering Route 611 (Easton Road), Bristol Road, Street Road (Route 132), and Valley Road.

Weather conditions permitting, spraying to control adult mosquito populations will be conducted during the evening hours on Wednesday July 8th,in Manchester Township. Residential, commercial and agricultural areas located in the area of North George Street Extended from Interstate 83 to Emigsville. Samples taken by Penn State Cooperative Extension –York County West Nile Virus Program and Pennsylvania DEP have shown high mosquito populations that can carry the West Nile virus in these areas. The rain date will be July 9th.

The Franklin County West Nile Program in consultation with the PA Department of Environmental Protection's West Nile Program, has scheduled truck mounted ultra low volume (ULV) mosquito control operations in portions of Guilford, St. Thomas, and Southhampton Townships and Chambersburg Borough for Wednesday and Thursday, July 8th and 9th. Residential areas will be sprayed for adult mosquitoes. The control work will begin after sundown.

The Franklin County West Nile Program in consultation with the PA Department of Environmental Protection's West Nile Program, has scheduled truck and ATV mounted ultra low volume (ULV) mosquito control operations in portions of Washington Township and Waynesboro Borough for Monday and Tuesday, July 6th and 7th. Residential areas will be sprayed for adult mosquitoes. The control work will begin after sundown.

NORRISTOWN – Weather permitting, the state Department of Environmental Protection, in coordination with West Nile virus staff in Delaware County, will apply treatments the evening of Tuesday, July 7, in portions of Upper Providence and Nether Providence townships to control adult mosquito populations. The rain date will be Wednesday, July 8, or Thursday, July 9.

   [6/29/2009] York County Scheduled Spray in Lower Windsor Township, East Prospect Borough and Hallam Borough to Reduce High Mosquito Populations That Can Carry West Nile Virus
Weather conditions permitting, spraying to control adult mosquito populations will be conducted during the evening hours on Tuesday June 30th, in Lower Windsor Township, East Prospect Borough and Hallam Borough, York County. In Lower Windsor Township spraying will occur in the communities of Shalako MHP, Margaretta MHP and Seitz MHP. Additional spraying will be performed on Christine Drive, Corinne Drive, Vickilee Drive, Lemon Street, Sunrise Lane and Ruby Lane. The final spray of the evening will occur in the Hallam Borough community known as Buttonwood Gardens on Friendship Avenue. Samples taken by Penn State Cooperative Extension –York County West Nile Virus Program have shown high mosquito populations that can carry the West Nile virus in these municipalities. The rain date will be July 2nd.

MEADVILLE – Weather permitting, the state Department of Environmental Protection and West Nile virus staff in McKean County will apply treatments the evening of Wednesday, June 24, in Eldred Borough, Eldred and Keating townships to control adult mosquito populations. This is a follow-up to a mosquito control operation conducted June 18 in the same neighborhoods.

   [6/19/2009] Union County to Spray Mosquitoes Tuesday (6/23) and Wednesday (6/24) night
Staff from the Union County West Nile Virus program will be spraying in the Lewisburg area of Union County this Tuesday and Wednesday, June 23rd and 24th weather permitting. A barrier spray will be applied to the vegetation perimeter of St. Anthony Street Park and a thermal fog will be applied to the swamp and the Baylor soccer fields below Riverwoods, and River Road, Lewisburg between 8:30 – 9:15 P.M.

The Franklin County West Nile Program in consultation with the PA Department of Environmental Protection's West Nile Program, has scheduled a truck mounted ultra low volume (ULV) mosquito control operations in a portion of Greene Township where post spray trapping from last week’s operation indicated mosquito populations that still exceed recommended thresholds. The ULV is scheduled for Monday, June 15th, with Tuesday, June 16th as a backup, if weather conditions force postponement. Residential areas will be sprayed for adult mosquitoes. The control work will begin after sundown.

   [5/14/2009] PA’S FIRST WEST NILE POSITIVE SAMPLE OF 2009 DISCOVERED IN YORK COUNTY
State Officials Remind People to Eliminate Standing Water to Reduce Risk of Disease
HARRISBURG – State officials today reported the first finding of West Nile Virus in Pennsylvania of 2009 – the earliest in years – and reminded residents of steps they can take to reduce the risk of being bitten by an infected mosquito. The Department of Environmental Protection’s West Nile Virus program reports the first positive result was found in an American crow collected in Springettsbury Township, York County. This is the second-earliest reported evidence of West Nile Virus in Pennsylvania since 2003, when West Nile virus was identified in late April of that year.
